Laser and radiofrequency catheter treatment

Varicose Veins

Varicose veins are more than a cosmetic issue. Weak vein valves let blood flow back down instead of up to the heart, causing heaviness, swelling and sometimes skin changes and ulcers. Not all varicose veins are treated the same way, and the right decision starts with a duplex ultrasound.

When to get checked

Signs that need assessment

If you have one or more of these signs, an early check makes treatment easier.

  • Heavy, tired legs at the end of the day
  • Bulging or twisted veins under the skin
  • Swelling around the ankle
  • Cramps or muscle tightness at night
  • Skin discoloration or a wound near the ankle

Duplex ultrasound

Around the world

The latest global advances

Modern techniques in the field, shared for awareness. Whether they suit your case is decided after examination and imaging.

Thermal ablation first

EVLA / RFA

The European Society for Vascular Surgery guidelines (2022) prefer laser and radiofrequency ablation over traditional stripping for most saphenous vein cases.

Medical glue closure

Cyanoacrylate Closure

Sealing the vein with a medical adhesive, with no heat and no local anesthesia around the vein.

Mechanochemical ablation

MOCA

A rotating catheter combined with a sclerosing agent closes the vein without heat.

Ultrasound-guided foam

UGFS

Injecting a sclerosing agent as foam under ultrasound guidance, suitable for some twisted veins and branches.

FAQ

Questions we hear often

Ask the doctor
Can varicose veins come back after treatment?

New veins can appear over time, which is why accurate duplex diagnosis and follow-up reduce this.

Does laser treatment need a hospital stay?

Usually not, and most patients return to normal activity within a short time. The doctor explains the instructions for each case.

Are compression stockings a treatment?

Stockings ease symptoms and help after the procedure, but they do not repair weak valves.

Are varicose veins dangerous?

Most are not, but neglecting them can lead to skin changes and ulcers. Sudden swelling and pain in one leg needs a quick check to rule out a clot.
